Laser Cut Induction.

Yesterday, I booked myself into an indiction to use the laser cutting machine which I found very interesting.
After going through the health and safety information for the room, we were taught how to set up the machine properly by setting the height of the laser from the material and setting up the size of the design. To do this you need to point the laser to both the bottom left and top right of the stock to show the machine where to cut your design.
When the machine was set up properly, we were taught how to use the software for the machine on the computer, and using all of the different settings that the laser cutter can use. These are:

  • Cut Through
  • Engrave
  • Kiss Cut
  • Raster
These can all be used on a number of different materials, apart from metal, and so makes this process really versatile and I am really interested to see how I can use it within my projects and how these processes look on different materials.

In the end, I set up the machine and the software to create a test piece out of wood that shows how each of the processes work. I am really excited to use this process again and will try to include at least a sample of this in my design for print project as I think it is interesting, and an important print process to know about.
