Design for Web

My initial research in the summer was about restaurants and their branding. And so, for this website i need to find a way of displaying some of this information and/or my enthusiasm for restaurants.

• What do I want to communicate?
• Who is the audience?
• Do I want it to be interactive?
• Educating, Instructing or Informative?
• Why will it or won't it work?

How can I push my own boundaries and those that are already set within web design?

Initially I wanted to look at what was already out there on the web about restaurants and where to eat, however there isn't much in the way of design when it comes to this. I found that the main websites dedicated to restaurants are review websites, which in some cases can be very helpful when you know what kind of restaurant or which restaurant in particular you are going to, but I found that if you were unsure, there was little in the way of helping to choose a restaurant. Asking some of my peers, I found that many of them tend to go to the same restaurants regularly, and would only be inclined to try something new with a recommendation from a friend or colleague. I find this fascinating that people are either not willing to try new places, or just don't know about many different restaurants.

From here I thought about creating a website with many different restaurants listed on it that would help people unfamiliar with a range of restaurants choose which one they want to go to.

• What is your subject matter? A variety of different restaurants (in Leeds?)
• What are you trying to communicate? Helping and informing people of which restaurants, and variety of restaurants are available, and to encourage them to try something different
• Who will be/could be your audience or end user? Those that go to restaurants, so young professionals, business people or those who have some spare money at the end of the month, Also anyone celebrating a birthday/graduation/success?
• What will be the most appropriate/most effective form of content? Informative and educational, about the restaurants available.
• What is the function and purpose? The function is to inform and educate the user about restaurants, and the purpose is to promote these restaurants and get the audience to go to knew places and experience new things.
