Kerning is the space between two letters. Equal kerning is when each of the letters has an equal space between each other.
Never negative kern. Where the biggest space is within the word, leave the kerning at 0 and then positively kern the rest of the letters to make the spaces between them the same.

The second one reads much better and like you would say it when you were speaking.

When reading a page, we read some before others and this is because of placement, size and weight of the letters. This task was to put the words four three two one on a page, but make them be read as One, two, three, four.

This second task was to keep the same sizes and weights that we used for the first task, but make it be read as four, three, two, one.

This workshop involved creating a leaflet and also a small brochure for an exhibition at MoMA in a short space of time. This helped a lot with our layout skills and quick decision making.

Flyer

We had only 45 minutes to complete this flyer task and it was difficult to find ways of getting all of the information on one page so that it looked interesting and the information was easily read. The most important part of this task was to figure out what information needed to be seen at first glance so that the viewer could see what they needed to very quickly. I found it hard making the small design decisions like the placement of the sponsors and how lodge the title should be, and it was these small details that took the longest to do. However, in the small amount of time that we had I think that I managed to make a fairly successful flyer. All of the important information like the title of the exhibition, the date and venue of it is easily understood and it is not overcomplicated to that it is easily read and understood. 

Brochure

For the brochure we had a couple of hours to create a 10 page concertina containing images and information about the artists involved in the exhibition. 

I found this task a little easier to do as the extra time made it easier to make smaller design decisions over the whole brochure. I am happy with my final design for the brochure. It is simple and easy to understand wile still looking interesting. It also flows well through the whole concertina pages as well as working well folded up. If I had more time to work on it I would probably play around with colour a little more which I think would make the publication stand out from others.

For the layout of this publication I feel that it is important to keep the essence of what a cookbook looks and feel like when flicking through. The layout needs to be fairly image based with simple and to the point information which would take the place of the recipe.
Most cookbooks have imagery on each page, and sometimes a double spread page of imagery so that the reader learns by looking rather than reading through a huge bit of text. This is important to keep this balance in my publication to show my research through both image and text and also through the layout of my publication.

From here I went on to design the other pages of the publication in the same way, trying to mimic the look of a cookbook, but without the same content. 

I decided to change the colour scheme of my cookbook to black and white as well,  because I think that this looked much more like a modern cookbook, and rather than having full colour images like a cookbook would I wanted to change it a bit to keep it modern looking and not completely like a cookbook. 

For the front cover of the book I wanted it to look quite striking, with bold type and an eye catching brand that continues through the book.

Final Publication
