For this brief we were put into groups and given a job title to build a brand around. My group was given Dredging, which we weren't really sure what it was to begin with, but after some initial research we found that it was in fact the cleans of water beds, in canals and lakes. We found that this was an environmentally stable way of maintaining the waterways and so this is the angle we decided to go with for our brand.
For the brief within our group I was in charge of creating the brand guidelines, meaning that every piece of material for the brand has to adhere to these rules.
We decided to call our brand "Iridescent Waters" to show how our brand is clean and beneficial to the clean waters. After Choosing the name and also the colours that we would use, we split up into our own roles within the group to work on different aspects of the brand.
I was working on the brand guidelines handbook, and so the decisions the other members of my group made were all impacting on what I wrote. This was where we had to communicate well so that the brand felt and looked together.
I am very proud of the work that we all managed to get done within one day. I think that we all worked together really well and this shows in the quality of our brand. I always find that shorter briefs are much easier for me to work with as I think that I work well under pressure, and I think that this shows in my work that I produced during this one day brief. I also think that working in a group for this project was really beneficial to me as I sometimes find it hard to work alongside people with strong opinions, but the group I worked with here were all easy to talk with and we all collaborated well.

Studio Brief 2 OUGD505.
For The restaurant I am creating I have decided to name it "M", as it is modern malaysian food. I think that this represents the non traditional aspect of the restaurant whilst also showcasing the kind of flavours and experience you can expect at the restaurant.
For the logo I wanted to keep it fairly simple, with a small amount of decoration so that the modern aspect of the restaurant is shown.
These three colours, as well as black will be used within the restaurant and its brand to create a more dynamic brand.
For the business card to follow the brand I wanted to keep it quite simple, but use all the colour ways individually so that there is a variation.

The final logo I think works well to modernise the restaurant while also staying quite simplistic and interesting.
However, I want to create different colour ways to use within the restaurant and its branding to differentiate between menus and other parts of its brand.

Signage
For the sign I wanted to create a wooden laser cut sign that would hang outside of the restaurant, but unfortunately I was unable to book myself a slot with the laser cutter, and so I have mad to make a mock up to show what this would look like.
For the promotion of the restaurant I want to create some posters that use the logo to create something interesting, but perhaps without the use of text to illustrate what the restaurant is. But then how will people know hat kind of food the restaurant makes?
I could perhaps make two different posters, one using the logo purely as a pattern etc, and then another with more information on it about the poster.
These three posters would be used closer to where the restaurant is situated so that people walking around in that area will recognise the brand and want to visit the restaurant. I think that these would also work well in the shop window, and also as a front cover for the monthly zine of recipes.
Menu Design
For the menu design I want to keep it clean and simple, mainly because it needs to be easy to read and understand, but also because the design will fit in with the rest of the brand. For the food I chose a select few traditional but delicious Malaysian foods, but they would be brought up to date with cooking techniques and how they are presented.
On the back of each menu, there will be the same pattern design as on the posters and napkins.
Other printed material that I have created includes screen printed napkins and takeaway bags for the restaurant. I wanted to screen print these as I think it gives the brand another dimension, and it is also much more environmentally friendly than digital print as it uses no electricity.
Overall I am happy with my brand, I think that the concept works well with the type of atmosphere I am trying to create and I also think that the restaurant looks and feels how I wanted it to.
